Daniel A. R. Chaves (S’11, M’13) was born in Recife, Brazil. He received the B.Sc (2006), M.Sc (2008) and Ph.D (2012) degrees in electrical engineering from Federal University of Pernambuco, Recife, PE, Brazil.
He joined the department of Computer Engineering at University of Pernambuco (Recife, PE, Brazil) as an assistant professor in 2010. He is currently an associate professor in the same department. His research has been related to optical networking, optical communications and artificial intelligence in themes such as routing and spectrum assignment algorithms, network resilience, design of all-optical and translucent networks, optical amplifier operational point adjustments and applications of artificial and computational intelligence in network optimization. He is co-author of about 100 papers in peer reviewed scientific journals and conferences.

Dr. Chaves is a member of the Brazilian Society of Microwaves and Opto-electronics and National Council of Technological and Scientific Development (CNPq) Fellow Researcher since 2022.
