IMPORTANT DATES
Deadline for paper submission: 15 May 2022
Date for notification: 30 July 2022
Camera Ready Submissions: 31 August 2022

SCOPE AND MOTIVATION

The 5G long term vision is to “turn the network into an energy-efficient distributed computer system that enables agile and dynamic creation, move and suppression of processes and services in response to changing customer demands and information flows, and that supports interaction with humans through new communication modes, such as gestures, facial expressions, sound, and haptics. To make this vision a reality, a shift towards a full automation of network and service management and operation is a necessity. However, a major challenge facing full automation is the protection of the network and system assets (i.e., services, data and network infrastructure) against potential cybersecurity risks introduced by the unprecedented evolving 5G threat landscape. Indeed, the risk of full automation is the ability to replicate a small isolated error or attack broadly and rapidly, putting the entire critical ecosystem (multi-party/tenant/technologies) into peril.

5G is expected to support supremely high data rates and extremely low latency to enable a variety of applications, e.g., remote control of smart vehicles and virtual/augmented reality. Due to diversified and stringent requirements in different applications, 5G also needs  intelligent mechanisms for managing various resources including computing, networking and storage resources.

Although 5G and beyond-5G offer a multitude of benefits to the emerging applications, they are susceptible to the malicious or inadvertent introductions of vulnerabilities, such as malicious software or hardware, counterfeit components, and poor designs. Even worse, these new technologies are facing a series of inherent security and privacy threats, which intensify the vulnerabilities of the 5G networks. In addition, vastly increased numbers of devices and an elevated use of virtualization result in more 5G security threats and a broader, multifaceted attack surface. To realize strong and healthy communication networks, exploring the approaches to address the security and privacy threats are vital for both industry and academia. To address the aforementioned challenges in beyond 5G or 6G telecommunication infrastructure and services, the inherent support of full automation operations in network and service management is a necessity. One of the most critical areas of application for zero touch automation is the protection of the network and system assets against potential cybersecurity risks introduced by the unprecedented evolution of the 5G threat landscape.

Our aim is to promote the development of 5G security by design

IEEE WCNC 2022: Boosting Verticals into Wireless Orbit

This premier world wireless event, IEEE Wireless Communications, and Networking Conference (IEEE WCNC) 2022, will be hosted in Austin from 10th thru13th April 2022. The venue for this hybrid-format conference is the Hilton Austin, located in the heart of downtown. It is famous for its vibrant culture and 6th Street as the entertainment district and called Live Music Capital of the World.

The theme of the conference is ‘Boosting Verticals into Wireless Orbit.’ 5G is driving mobile data traffic growth this decade with exciting new applications that vertical industries will increasingly adopt. At the same time, the 6G vision is starting to emerge, and it will become the new wireless platform for 2030 and beyond.

The conference offers comprehensive Technical and Industry Programs that provide rich and unique value to attendees. The content covers all the most exciting topics in wireless communications and networking, including 11 workshops, 12 tutorials, 361 technical papers and presentations, Eight dynamic keynote

speakers, Two Executive Forum sessions., Dialogue with Industry Leaders, Eleven Industry panel, Ten Industry presentations, Wireless Startup session – a pitch competition, Sponsors & Exhibitors

The conference received 742 paper submissions, among which 361 papers were accepted after a careful review process. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions, the meeting will be hybrid, with 23 in-person sessions at the conference venue and 48 virtual sessions. All papers will have a recorded video associated with them to watch at your leisure.

For this WCNC, we have reorganized the technical tracks into four new tracks that we believe better fit the current trends in wireless research. These are:
1. Physical layer and communication theory
2. Networking and MAC
3. Machine learning and optimization for wireless systems
4. Emerging technologies, standards, and applications
The Industry program is enhanced and expanded with more keynote speakers, several panels (mixed participation between industry practitioners and technical research), new dialogue with industry leaders, and executive

ComSoc Panama “Outstanding Chapter” and “Outstanding Volunteer” of IEEE Panama Section

ComSoc Panama was awarded by the IEEE Panama section as the “Outstanding Chapter” of the year 2021 for their outstanding performance during last year. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic they actively promoted the presentation and exchange of information among its members and the technical community in the country and the region during 2021. ComSoc Panama had a dynamic promotion using the social networks and their website. In addition, during 2021 ComSoC Panama proposed several initiatives that allowed them to win different grants. All this dynamic is reflected in its membership.

ComSoc Panama, led by its chapter chair (2021- 2022) Yessica Saez, has achieved to consolidate a dynamic board of directors, balanced between the industry and the academia, with strong female presence. Nowadays, ComSoc Panama is a reference in Panama as a technical society in the communications field for academia, the industry, and the public sector. For this reason, Mrs. Saez was also awarded the “Manuel López Spla Award for Outstanding Volunteer 2021”.

ComSoc Panama had a dynamic promotion using the social networks and their website.

Congratulations to ComSoc Panama board of directors and all ComSoc Panama volunteers.
